    Chine-collé, found photography

This piece is inspired by a remarkable archive from the NYC Tax Assessor’s Office, where city workers documented every building, block by block. Over time, photographers—often working in pairs—would attract a following of children curious about their work. By the end of a long day, when they needed to finish a roll of film, the result was often an impromptu portrait like this: a cluster of kids, their expressions a mix of defiance, wonder, and camaraderie.

Through chine-collé and layered textures, NYC Kids captures the energy of these fleeting encounters—moments where bureaucracy meets childhood, and a city’s history is unknowingly preserved through the eyes of its youngest observers.
